Exertional Heat Stroke Protocol

1. Start Cooling
Remove equipment. Put the whole body in ice water (35 to 58° F) up to the neck. Stir the water and keep adding ice.

2. Call 911
Once cooling has started, call 911. If another adult is here, they can call now.
3. Record Temperature
Use a rectal thermometer only. Stop cooling at 101 to 102° F.

Exertional heat stroke has had a 100% survival rate when immediate cooling started within 10 minutes of collapse (UIL).
